Our most successful educators and para educators are positive, organized, proactive, flexible and embrace change well. Schools and districts need education professionals with that are inspired to serve students with effective classroom management skills while maintaining school standards during guest teaching assignments. Students often respond ell to guest teachers who are engaging, patient, open-minded, kind, fair, consistent and take a genuine interest in their learning experience.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, submit your completed application to ecteam@essentialcurriculumteam.com. There is a process to preparing for the classroom. Be prepared to invest several hours and some out of pocket costs for things like transcripts, credentials and background checks to qualify you to work in the classroom. The process can be completed in less than one week, many teachers complete their applications within 1-2 days.


A complete application should include the following:

  1. Print and complete the application. Complete the application online here.

  2. Review, print and sign the Authorization for Background Check Release form.

  3. Review, print and complete the Unprofessional Conduct Disclosure.

    *Please note this form must be completed by an authorized employee at your current or former employer.

  4. Print and complete a W-9 form.

  5. Print and submit a current resume.

  6. Print and submit a list of references

  7. Submit official transcripts.

    **Costs associated with transcript requests vary.

  8. Print and submit the approved permit, certificate or credential required for your state.

    Michigan: Apply for a Michigan Daily Substitute Permit

    *Required for all (emergency, temporary, short and long term) guest/substitute teachers

  9. Submit a copy of your completed LIVESCAN - Michigan digital fingerprinting background check form and receipt. Read more about LIVESCAN here.


Documentary evidence of all diplomas, degrees, certifications, licenses, permits and specialized training credentials/endorsements is required. Please prepared to provide copies of CURRENT permits, certifications, licenses and related credentials or endorsements. *There may be out of pocket costs associated with requests and re-certifications.

For the safety of students and in accordance with state and federal law, only teachers that have completed applications on file, with the state required documentation and credentials can accept classroom assignments.
